Volunteer with us
Have you found your SDCS membership valuable and would like to give back and support the community?
SDCS is run by a dedicated group of parents, all of whom have at least one deaf child. we all work on a voluntary basis and fit this around our jobs and families. We are all passionate about providing experiences and support to families, and helping to enrich the lives of deaf children in Surrey.
We always welcome offers of help, whether that be joining the committee, or organising and hosting events on behalf of the charity or providing your time and expertise on a more ad hoc basis. Please do get in touch (info@surreydeaf.co.uk) or talk to one of our volunteers at one of our events.
Kirsty pointer - chair
Hi my name is Kirsty and I have been part of the Surrey Deaf Children Society for eight years. My son has had bilateral hearing aids for his moderate loss since three weeks old, my daughter who is six has no hearing impairment but just doesn’t listen to me.
charlotte simms - treasurer
Hi I’m Charlotte and I’m the current Treasurer for SDCS. I live in Guildford with my husband and three children. Two of our children were diagnosed with a progressive hearing loss in early childhood and are now happy CI users.
lucy freer - secretary
Hello, I’m Lucy and the SDCS secretary. My son was diagnosed with sensorineural bilateral hearing loss at the newborn screening test. He got his first hearing aids at seven weeks. As two hearing parents we knew nothing about the deaf world and being part of SDCS has helped us learn more and gain support and friendship with other families in similar situations.
Amaia Rodriguez - Safe guard designate & Committee member
Hi, I am Amaia, and I am the designated safeguarding person for SDCS.
I live in Chessington with my husband and our daughter, Maddi, who was diagnosed with unilateral hearing loss at the newborn hearing screening. She was aided when she was seven years of age.
MIKE HUBBARD - committee member
I’m a parent of a deaf child and I’ve always loved creating spaces where people feel welcome and supported. In the past I trained holiday reps and ran a soft play centre, and these days I work in operations and coaching.
I joined the committee to help families feel connected and to make sure our children have access to the opportunities they deserve.
